紐約尼克隊客場「德州之旅」最後一場面對小牛，以92比80輕鬆勝出，不過賽後卻被眼尖的媒體和球迷發現，尼克的史密斯(J.R Smith)，罰球站位時偷解對方球員馬里安(Shawn Marion)的鞋帶，被轉播單位照得一清二楚。

次節最後2分多鐘尼克以15分領先小牛，史密斯在諾威斯基(Dirk Nowitzki)罰球時被換上場，罰球站位時作勢彎腰，不料卻偷偷伸手解開隔壁馬里安的鞋帶，被轉播單位看光光，也讓不少球迷傻眼。

儘管當時馬里安似乎有察覺到不對勁，但仍以卡位籃板為優先，待下一個死球才趕緊低頭綁好鞋帶。

過去史密斯就曾經因為肘擊綠衫軍泰瑞(Jason Terry)的臉，被判二級惡意犯規，驅逐出場的歷史，美媒也認為，史密斯有可能將接受聯盟的懲處，畢竟連先前籃網總教練奇德(Jason Kidd)用唇語說「hit me」(撞我)，都難逃攝影機法眼，最後也收到一張5萬美元(約150萬新台幣)罰單，逃也逃不掉。
